Demonstrating World Cup enthusiasm, the audience roared, clapped and stamped its approval after each composition during yesterday’s sold-out two-piano concert at Rockport Music in which Marc-André Hamelin and Charles Richard Hamelin, unrelated except for their pianistic skills and talent, performed works from the two-piano literature.
Hearing this music is a rarity these days, mainly because finding two pianos in one room (on which to practice) presents a challenge. Does one approach it as chamber music, or as a double dose of solo piano music? For our pianists, the answer was a combination of both….
