The internationally celebrated pianist Marc-André Hamelin performed in Carnegie Hall’s Keyboard Virtuosos series at Stern Auditorium on Wednesday evening, January 20, 2016 at 8 pm. Mr. Hamelin, who won the Carnegie Hall competition in 1985 and has appeared there frequently since, has performed works by Mozart, Busoni, Debussy, and the New York premiere of one of his own compositions, Pavane Variée. An acclaimed Liszt player, Mr. Hamelin closed the program with Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B Minor; he will return to Carnegie Hall on February 18, 2016 as soloist in Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and conductor Iván Fischer.
